Kenyan Judge Begins Ruling in Pastor Paul McKenzie Case
A Kenyan judge began issuing verdicts in a mass trial of the major killing case related to the Donomore sect led by Paul McKenzie. McKenzie and 29 of his followers are charged with the murder of 191 people, mostly children. According to the prosecution, McKenzie's gang starved children to death to meet Jesus and banned education and modern medicine. McKenzie and his followers all denied the charges and claimed that no one was forced to die. However, McKenzie and the gang leaders are under investigation for terrorist and apostate crimes and for depriving children of education. Over 400 bodies were found in clandestine graves in the Shakahola forest near Kenya's coast. James, one of the excavators, told BBC: "Every grave we found contained at least three bodies." He added: "We found 12 children's bodies lined up in one grave." Some of the bodies were of people known in the local community, as the gang would visit Shakahola town to obtain supplies and water from the Galana River. Salim Karisa, one of the excavators, said: "We were transporting people on motorbikes to the forest, but it was meticulously planned and kept secret."
