The UN Adopts a New World Map to Reflect Africa's True Size

Analysis & Context

Analytically, this move by the United Nations reflects ongoing shifts in the world's perspective on geography and history. Maps do not merely depict geographic reality but also influence how nations and cultures understand each other. For instance, Africa is often depicted smaller than its actual size due to the commonly used Mercator projection, thereby diminishing its importance and influence. In a broader context, this step aims to promote a contemporary and fair view of geographic regions around the world.
